Four Lessons in Choosing Modern Electric Heating

If you are keen to save money using Modern Electric Heating here are the key lessons to need aware of.

1)    Correct Specification

It is vital to get the correct size (power) radiator for the room size or area you are heating. If the radiator is too small, it will be working too hard and be on more often. The radiators are thermostatic. You set the temperature what you want the room to be. When this is reached, the radiator will stop heating. Therefore, it is never a mistake to over specify. Even if you put the largest radiator in the smallest room, it will only heat to the desired temperature. Also, don’t miss out any areas. If you are trying to heat one room to 20 degrees and you have the door open to another area, you’re effectively trying to heat that area as well. Again, this will cause the radiator to work harder. Treat electric radiators like central heating. You’ll need one in every room/every area. If the rooms are big enough, you may need more than one. You’ll find a handy room size guide on our radiator pages, or you can fill out the instant quote feature for a quick, no obligation quotation.

2)    Leave Your Radiators ON All The time

We recommend setting a programme to suit your lifestyle and leaving the radiators on all the time. The radiators are thermostatic and will stop heating when the temperature is reached. With the high level of control and programming you can set different temperatures for different times of the day/week. You set a comfortable temperature for when you are using a room, somewhere between 18 degrees and 21 degrees is comfortable for most people. For older people or infants, you may want it hotter. You can select whatever temperature you like. You then select a lower temperature at night or when you are out. Ideally this should be 3 – 4 degrees less than your comfort temperature. Test have shown this is more efficient than switching on and off all the time and heating from cold.

3)    Our radiators use Precision Thermostats with Programming

All our radiators have an integral room thermostat which is highly accurate to within +/- 0.2 of a degree. This precise level of control means you won’t be under heating or over heating your rooms. Your radiator will only use the exact amount of energy needed. You don’t need to turn the radiators up on cold days as they will still heat to your temperature and on warm days they won’t come on anyway so no need to turn off. As the radiators are individually thermostatic so you only need to heat the rooms you are using and no need to heat rooms you are not using.

The radiators can be programmed to be different temperatures at different times of day. You can select lower temperatures at night or during the day if you are out at work.

Smart controls in our iVista Prisma+ range enable you to manage your heating from anywhere via our iVista app on your smartphone or tablet. Modern Electric heating helps save money.

4)    Cast Aluminium for Gentle Radiated Heat

Our electric radiators are very much a “radiator”. The whole radiator body gets warm and emits heat from the surface giving a high level of comfort. Cast aluminium is used for the construction of the radiator body. Cast aluminium is the best material to use as it is an excellent conductor of heat and produces a high percentage of high quality radiated heat. It results in an even room temperature and lower electricity consumption by reducing losses associated with other types such as thinner and lighter extruded aluminium which produces more convection.

It’s also a good idea for customers to shop around for their electricity. After price increases over winter by the big six energy suppliers, who account for over 80% of the market, the government recently announced possible intervention in the energy market as some customers are paying more than £300 more than they could be by remaining loyal to the big six. We help customers find the cheapest deals in their area and help them switch. Modern electric heating helps save money when these lessons are taking into account.

As the UK moves away from traditional fossil fuels to more secure low carbon heating, electric is increasingly becoming an environmentally friendly option. Electricity can be produced from renewable sources such as solar or wind, making energy efficient electric radiators an eco-friendly heating solution.
