As a new year begins, we often look to how we can improve ourselves by setting targets, goals and resolutions. Whilst you may be disheartened that you have set yourself the same goals as you did last year (and the year before that, and the time before), take some solace in the fact that you are not alone. And so what? It never hurts to use the New Year to really look at how you can revamp your lifestyle for the better. We take a look at the 5 most popular New Year’s Resolutions and why they never go out of style.

1. Looking after your health

2018 has already proven to be a huge year for ‘get fit’ resolutions. With 2017 seeing the rise of the gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan diets, the nation is starting this year as they hope to continue. National retailers have gotten straight onto the bandwagon with coffee shop chains promoting their lower fat coconut milk alternatives, superstores flogging their gluten-free ranges, and – of course – that buzzword of the month: Veganuary.

And there is no denying the health benefits of getting your bottom off the sofa. Studies have shown that exercise can reduce the risks of heart disease and diabetes, improve arthritic joints and bones, lower blood pressure and increase longevity. So there really is no surprise that (after a full month of cheese, wine, and being merry!) the sales of home workout DVDs and gym memberships will have skyrocketed. But I KNOW that tracksuit definitely did shrink in the dryer…

2. Focusing on career progression

Yes, the reality of getting back to work really is hard to face in January. The mornings are dark, the evenings are dark, it is cold all the time. But career progression is certainly still a big one when it comes to New Year’s Resolutions. If you hate your job, the month of January definitely does not make it any easier which makes it a prime time of year to think about your career path and applying for other jobs.

Getting into work is also a lot easier when you see yourself going somewhere in your job. To make career progression or career change possible, get organised. There are lots of free advice workshops out there for writing personal statements, CVs and covering letters to get you the job you want. A top tip is to get a weekly planner and set out small, achievable steps for the direction you want to head in your job

3. Spend quality time with loved ones

Christmastime is so special to us because of the time we get to spend with our friends and family. This makes many of us realise that we should spend time with those dear to us much more often, rather than just during Christmas. This is a popular New Year’s resolution which will never go out of fashion, because time is precious and being around those we love really does make the time count. 2018 may be full of adventures, changes and progressions, but relationships are a vital part of our lives which should never be overlooked or taken for granted.

4. Redecorating your house

The tree is down. The presents have neatly found their forever home in the house. The 23 chocolate tins have been emptied and thrown out. The fridge and freezer have returned to their usual state. Now is the time to redecorate!

People see their house in January as a blank canvas, as most of the Christmas clutter has been eradicated. It’s a great time of year to look at the upcoming Spring/Summer 2018 styles for interior design and be ahead of the décor game. We particularly like Good Homes Magazine’s tip for the paired-back Modern Scandi style, which is set to be a trend continuing well into this New Year.

Equally, if you are thinking of 2018 as being the year you make a move in your living situation, let January be the real kick-starter for this. Fitting cost effective heating, kitchens and bathrooms really can increase the value of your property and you might even find yourself a brilliant deal in those January sales!

5. Be more financially savvy

For so many people, debts can be a big source of stress. If financial worries put a dampener on your 2017, then a resolution of yours is probably to get this sorted or to spend less this year. They say money can’t buy happiness, but when finances are a burden it’s certainly difficult not to worry. A great way to improve money troubles is to think about the long term.

The money expert Martin Lewis recommends comparing and switching to cheaper energy companies and many professionals recommend your local Citizen’s Advice Bureau (CAB) where they can talk you through how to get out of debts. Long term changes such as changing how you heat your home will make a dramatic difference when it comes to saving money.

When saving money on your energy we recommend our electric radiators and home heating because they are energy efficient, cost effective to fit and are made to tailor around you and your heating needs. This means that you will never spend more than you need to when heating your home. You can ensure this by utilising our radiators’ technical advancements and features such as Motion Sensor, Open Windows Detector, Energy Monitor and iVista Mobile Technology.

Changing your heating system with us is a small and achievable step to not only saving money in 2018, but also for future proofing your home. For help and advice contact the team at Electric Radiator Solutions today
